Situation

The strategic situation in N'Ziwasogo has changed decisively in favor of the PPF in the last few weeks. The advantage gained from our vehicle park raid and the TKP's use of anti-tank mines proved only temporary. PPF forces have not only been able to sweep mines and replenish their losses, but have expanded their capabilities from shipments of heavier armored vehicles and employment of sophisticated counterinsurgency tactics to project power into the N'Ziwasogo interior.

To add on to this, just yesterday, PPF teams were observed with MANPADS in the vicinity of our airstrip. Our employers are certain they remain unaware of its location, but the noose is tightening.

As such the threat from the PPF has rendered our operations non-viable. Our employers are shutting down the airstrip and pulling Theseus out.

Because of the threat of MANPADS, the final flights from the airstrip can only be made using low-level approaches at night, greatly reducing traffic. The constraints on air transport mean that Theseus will be extracting using covertly operated civilian boats at a coastal location, alongside delivering the final arms shipment.

Our current employer liason will remain behind at the airstrip to monitor communications, destroy remaining equipment in place, then take the last flight out. As with our other employee liasons during this campaign, he is quite barmy.

Objectives

Theseus is to break through the PPF counterinsurgency fortifications to deliver the final arms shipment to Mbanza Kyete. In order to break through to Mbanza Kyete, Theseus will need to assault the forward PPF positions on the North-South road between Mbanza Kyete and Mansoa.

Following arms delivery, Theseus contractors will move to the coastal RP for extraction.

PPF forces have constructed a series of strongpoints to control access into the jungle, augmented by mobile ad hoc checkpoints on the roads that do not follow a fixed schedule. Known strongpoints are marked on the map. The lynchpin of their counterinsurgency fortifications is a mutually supporting forward outpost (103-150) and observation post (105-150) controlling the main North-South route between Mansoa and Mbanza Nyongo-Mbanza Kyete, the two main remaining ethnic Taka population centers in the AO.

The PPF's expanded capabilities have resulted in a resumption of mounted raid operations and use of vehicle QRFs. The heaviest observed enemy vehicles are Otokar ARMAs with the older exposed machine gun mounts, which have been operating in teams of two. One soft-skinned vehicle QRF team is positioned at the main PPF outpost along with a fuel dump. All other QRFs have been observed to originate from Kedougou.

Unlike earlier in the campaign, QRFs are singificantly more responsive due to the replacement of mobile phones with radios. However, due to the dispersion of PPF forces trying to hold territory, there are significantly fewer available mobile forces than we saw a few months ago. Additionally our employer liason has been able to passively monitor PPF radio traffic, which will allow us some warning of QRF dispatches.

The primary PPF outpost and OP are enclosed with HESCO barriers and barbed wire. They feature defended bastions as part of their walls and elevated cargo towers with searchlights. There is one HMG at each position, set to cover the road and the opposite fortification, with cleared fields of fire on either side of the road. Insurgents report that the jungle on either side allows closer approach but is typically patrolled.

Minor fortifications usually consist of 1-2 small bunkers or cargo towers, and mobile checkpoints usually consist of 1-2 vehicles and dismounts.

Some TKP forces will be positioned at Mbanza Kyete and our extraction point, but after several failed attempts over the past few weeks will not sortie to attack the outpost.
